- Friction torque limiters, also known as safety clutches, are installed between the driving and driven sides of a power transmission system. Gears are clamped between spring-loaded friction surfaces. The spring force can be adjusted with a nut to limit the magnitude of the transmitted torque. When an overload torque exceeds the set value, the torque limiter will disengage, effectively protecting the drive machinery and the load, thus preventing overload lifting and over-winding.
